The guidelines provide high-level recommendations on maritime cyber risk management to safeguard shipping from current and emerging cyber threats and vulnerabilities and include functional elements that support effective cyber risk management. MSC-FAL.1/Circ.3:On July 5, 2017, the IMO issued MSC-FAL.1/Circ.3 Guidelines on maritime cyber risk management. The details are provided by the IMO’s Circular, Guidelines on Maritime Cyber Risk Management, MSC-FAL.1/Circ.3. The IMO Guidelines consist of six pages which provide detailed recommendations on maritime cyber risk identification and management to safeguard shipping from current and emerging cyber threats and vulnerabilities. IMO Resolution MSC. 428(98) encourages flag state administrations to ensure that cyber risks are appropriately addressed in safety management systems (SMS) no later than the first annual verification of the Company’s Document of Compliance after 1st January 2021.
